Build your own website from scratch. 13. Promote the site. So you have your site uploaded and all systems are operational, now what? Visitors are not going to come along just out of the blue; it is also your work to attract them to the site. There are many ways of achieving this. One is to submit your site to all the popular search engines like /Google/, /Yahoo/, /Dmoz/, etc. This process might take a while since the free service they provide is so popular that sometimes it takes as much as 3 months to get you listed on their indexes. There are other ways as well; you can advertise the site on many forums and bulletin boards. You can advertise on mailing lists too, you just need to contact the mailing list manager and talk him into it. The newsgroups also do some great advertising. What is more important is that no matter which method you use, remember to get the word out there and to promote your site regularly. It is very important to understand that the promoting task is never ending, meaning that you will actually never finish promoting your site. Every time you can you should advertise your site, just about anywhere and everywhere. But remember, it is also important that you find a way to keep your visitors coming back, fresh content and continuous updates are one common way of doing this, but you might develop your own strategy; it is your site after all. |
