Build your own website from scratch. 14. Summary - Conclusion This journey has come to an end; finally you are done learning the basics of web developing. Luckily you have gotten something out of all this and you are on your way to become a great web publisher. Before all this is over, I just want to highlight some key concepts that are considered as the most important. Try to keep them in mind when constructing any kind of website and never overlook them, no matter what. Keep your objectives clear, always ask yourself, is this what I want the site to do? Is this what this website is meant for? Any website, no matter what content it holds, should be thoroughly examined and organized accordingly, always try to have a site map and look for better ways of arranging the content so it can be found more easily. Most of the users that return to any website return because of the content and not because of the layout. Although it might help, layout is not everything, content is, it should always be your top priority to develop excellent content. If you expect the visitors to enjoy your site, make sure that all your content is easily found and quickly browsable. Navigation is the main point in achieving this, make sure that your site has a navigation scheme not only suitable for the layout but also functional. The first impression is always very important, and what impacts the most about a site at first is its appearance. Color has a lot to do with this, so make sure that the colors and images you choose are not only likeable but that impact the visitor in a positive way. Your site might look awesome on paper or in your head and all the ingredients might seem good, but putting them together and making them work right is just as important, the layout is the union between content and visual appeal, remember to put all your effort in making it the best. Web development might be a tough work, but try to make your life easier, reuse code as much as possible, make template files and reuse images and themes so that the work you have done before doesn't go to waste. It might take a while to get the hang of it, but try to foresee whatever features you might need for your site and get a hosting solution that works for you and makes your life easier, not harder and do not hesitate, if your current provider does not satisfy your hosting needs, change it, it is not any better to stick with trouble. Lastly, don't forget to advertise yourself. You have been through much for building that website; make everybody else know about it. |
