Building a template file.

STEP 1: Setup

First, let's start by setting everything up properly. Start Macromedia Dreamweaver and click the CODE (<>) tab. If you don't have Dreamweaver you can always use Microsoft Windows Notepad or any raw text editor. Anyways, either if you use Dreamweaver or anything else, the key point is not to use any WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) features. Why? Because those features usually mess up your code and include some extra lines of code that aren't needed at all. I endorse Dreamweaver above all other WYSIWYG editors because of its code feature and because the program rarely meddles with the code beyond formatting your paragraphs nicely. I would recommend staying away from Microsoft Office FrontPage, mainly because it uses too much Internet Explorer only code and it changes many code lines just by opening the file.

STEP 1.1: Macromedia Dreamweaver's Site Setup

This is just if you are using Dreamweaver. You can set up now or later your 'site' so that Dreamweaver can locate your files and help you with some useful link updating features as well as making 'search & replace' features for multiple pages easier. /Click here to know how to set up your site in Macromedia Dreamweaver/.
